How I Started

Since this blog was intended as a sort of electronic diary about my writing and publishing experiences I thought I would say how I got started.  It began with ‘fan fiction’.  I was a huge fan of the television program Bonanza, especially eldest son Adam.  I discovered that many people were writing Bonanza stories and publishing them on the internet on sites that were devoted to this pastime.  So I wrote a few stories (they are still out there!) and received some positive feedback.  That other people actually read and enjoyed those stories was thrilling to me.  But fan fiction uses other people’s characters and when I discovered Regency romances I decided to create some of my own.  Thus Robert Rothwell and his siblings, as well as Charlotte Bishop and her nephew Will came into being.

  1. You can go to Bonanza Legacy Reading Room or Best of the West Bonanza Fan Fiction. I think the second site is where my stuff is published. There are some really good writers there. I recommend Melissa Brown. She is a friend and an excellent writer. She is listed as Lissa B and I am Lois B.

  2. I was wondering if you will ever write anymore stories about Adam and Meg and their children, I love stories about him and his family and their lives and the antics of the children and the way he is raising them, and yours are among the bet I have read. So I was hoping as they were and are popular you may write some more in the future and whether these are the only ones you have written, or are there more ? Please could you let me know the answers to these questions, and I really hope you think about adding some more to these great stories as you could carry on with the children getting older and older ? Thank you for the ones so far.

    • Hi Janice!
Thank you for the post. I’m sorry it took so long to answer but we were in England for a month. I did love writing the Bonanza tales. I especially love writing about children. I like them to be real and not smarty pants. I actually did imagine a whole bunch of stuff about Adam’s children as they grew up including his older daughter’s wedding, a bittersweet time for her father! I just wasn’t sure anyone would be interested…you know, Adam getting older and so on. But you have given me food for thought! I suppose all my heroes are based a little bit on Adam Cartwright. I adored his steady, intelligent character. So I will give some real consideration to continuing the stories. Again, thanks for the post!
